Breathtaking is the only word which can adequately describe the scenic splendour of Loch Ness. But there
is more to Loch Ness than its unquestionable beauty Fabled of the monster said to inhabit its murky waters, Loch Ness has a unique, almost
mystical atmosphere. The debate over whether the monster does exist rages on, but in such a haunting setting it is not difficult to understand
why so many people believe in "Nessie".
Urquhart Castle is the first port of call and affords the opportunity to go ashore and enjoy a leisurely
stroll around the ruins of what was once one of Scotland's largest castles.
The grounds of Urquhart afford some of the most exiting views of
the Loch and is also the location where most tourist sightings of the monster have been
made (make sure there is film in your camera just in case!)
There is a small gift shop situated in one of the old castle buildings. |

From Urquhart Castle, the Jacobite Queen heads for the village of
Drumnadrochit (don't worry about the pronunciation....
even the locals just call it "Drum!")
Here you will have the opportunity to visit the excellent Loch Ness Monster Exhibition Center. The Center is the base of the Loch Ness Project
(LNP),
a study involving workers from some 30 universities.
The LNP research program covers a diverse range of topics,
and was responsible for identifying a new species of plankton
organism living in the Loch.
The Monster Exhibition itself is fascinating and offers an insight into
the history of the Loch's most famous and elusive resident.
The exhibition is presented as a 40 minute walk through
audio-visual experience and exhibits include much
of the actual equipment used to explore the Loch over the years.
The centre also offers a selection of gift and craft shops
where visitors can buy souvenirs and postcards etc.
The Exhibition Centre is the last port of call for your
journey before heading back to Inverness is by coach,
arriving at approx. 6pm. The road back to Inverness
winds along the route of Loch Ness
affording magnificent views of the waters below,
and surrounding hills.
