Hawthorn lodge Guest House In Inverness Scotland
Moniack Castle.
Moniack Castle is the home of a unique Scottish cottage industry
...wine making. More famous for it's amber nectar (whisky).
 |
The Scottish highlands is perhaps the last place you would expect to find a
flourishing winery. Actually, Scotland has a long wine making tradition. At Moniack Castle you can see traditional Scottish wines,
liqueurs, and preserves, being made from natural ingredients grown in the castle's own grounds. Successive generations of the Fraser
family have lived at Moniack Castle since it was built in 1580. |
Today the Fraser family run the winery business with the help of local people.
For centuries people have been making wine from wild flowers,
fruits, and tree saps.
The castle is open to the public all year round. Visitors are invited
to watch the preserves being prepared in the large castle kitchen,
where they can sample the produce,
or even buy a few items to take home .

|
Lunch in the wine bar/bistro provides an opportunity to enjoy traditional Scottish
food, and taste some unique wines. Altogether a wonderful experience not to be missed. |
